One of the UK's leading authorities on Education Law, Ormerods Solicitors, Wimbledon, Croydon and Reigate, has a specialist education team, made up of trained solicitors who are experts in this very specific area of the law.
Our experience of representing parents in matters relating to education law is second to none and we regularly bring cases before Governing Bodies, Independent Appeal Committees, Special Educational Needs Tribunals and County and High Courts. We also lecture on the legal aspects of special educational needs.
Admissions and Exclusions (Local Authority and independent schools)
Did you know that if you have been unable to secure a place for your child at the school of your choice, you can appeal to the Local Authority?
Similarly you can appeal against the decision to exclude your child from school.
Unsuccessful appeals can be taken to the High Court and Ormerods Solicitors can advise and assist you throughout the legal process.
Special Educational Needs
A Government report in 1980 estimated that 20% of children have special educational needs at some time during their school career. 2% of children have severe and complex special needs requiring a statement to be drawn up for them.
At Ormerods Solicitors, we can advise you on obtaining a Statutory Assessment and on the statementing procedure. We can also assist on appeals to the Special Educational Needs Tribunal and on applications to the High Court where necessary if, for instance, the Local Authority fails to make the provision outlined in the statement.
Bullying
Sadly many children are bullied at school. At Ormerods Solicitors we offer a sympathetic service, giving professional advice on dealing with this sensitive matter and on obtaining compensation.
Negligence
Has your child suffered as a result of negligent teaching?
Is their school failing to make an appropriate provision for his or her special needs?
Ormerods Solicitors offers specialist advice to parents and students experiencing difficulties as a result of negligence by their teaching institution. Compensation can often be claimed through the County Court and Ormerods Solicitors has a wealth of experience in this area of education law.
